Thats what this app is being called, an advertising free facebook app targeted to 6 to 12yearold kids. Facebook says it took steps to be responsible with the app including giving parents tools to control their childrens social media use. But those against the app sent Mark Zuckerberg a letter showing social media can be damaging to young people. Heres one quote. Younger children are simply not ready to have social media accounts. Theyre not old enough to navigate the complexities of online relationships. Which often lead to misunderstandings and conflicts even among more mature users. As of friday the army corps of engineers has completed 58 of total cleanup. Workers had to clean debris from 13 properties in coffey park. Crews started to rebuild the first home in the neighborhood near sumatra drive. Starting today its supposed to get easier and less expensive to get permits to rebuild where thousands of homes and other structures were destroyed. The countys Resiliency Permit Center plan goes into full motion today and this means officials are bringing in an outside firm to handle permits and inspections. The county will reduce building fees, part of a 23 million plan approved by the board of supervisors. A popular bay area ballet teacher is under arrest after allegations he sexually abused a child. Abc 7 News Reporter kay larson talked with his boss at a daly city ballet school. Reporter 54yearold Viktor Kavaniaev is in jail after being arrested on a warrant of 16 counts of Sexual Assault after child under 14. These incidents occurred, though, a while ago in Contra Costa County. Reporter the d. A. s office says the charges to be filed tuesday are associated with his role as a ballet instructor. At one point he was in Contra Costa County with several different schools and giving private lessons. Reporter before his arrest kavaniaev was teaching here at the Westlake School for performing arts in daly city. Paul peoples, the executive director of the school, says kavaniaev teaches advanced ballet to teenagers five days a week and has never received any complaints. Peoples is in disbelief. He tells me the accusations are completely out of character for kavaniaev who has been reaching at westlake for almost eight years and has a wait list for his classes. The doctor was sentenced to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing 150 women and girls. Congress passed legislation requiring governing bodies to promptly report abuse claims to law enforcement. The bill needs to return to the senate for approval before the president signs it into law. Another bay area resident has drowned in maui and this makes three in just the past two weeks. All three were men, all three from the east bay, all three over the age of 50. And all three were snorkeling. The latest victim comes from berkeley. He died on saturday. The others were from oakland and castro valley. Usga inspectors joined the investigation of raw meat delivered to a San Jose Grocery store. Photos show it unwrapped and in shopping carts.
