This was on eastbound highway 4 near port chicago highway in concord at about 6 15 last night. They shut down two lanes of highway 4 for about two hours while they investigated the crash. They have not released any other drivers involved or how they are doing. We are hoping to learn more about that and what happened for this crash but we do know the officer is expected to survive. This was shocking, a mother of three had just turned 40. She was healthy. In fact, she was a marathon runner. And then she got the flu and came here to Good Samaritan hospital where she died within hours. The family is still shocked. Conditions declined so quickly she moved into intensive care and was put on life support. 15 hours after arriving from the hospital the mother of three passed away. The family believes katie had a flu shot. Very active, very healthy. I mean, exercised regularly. Shes a marathon runner. You know, really valued health. That was a part of what was so shocking about seeing her decline so quickly. Reporter while the elderly are susceptible to the flu california has seen 42 deaths of people under 65. 19 of those here in the bay area. Developing news from the east bay in the last 30 minutes the chp revealed a suspected drunk driver caused the Chain Reaction crash that left one of its officers seriously injured. That officer was responding to a crash when another vehicle hit one of the stopped cars which catapulted it on top of the officer several other cars then tried to avoid the wreckage, but they crashed, too. In all six vehicles ended up being involved. Eastbound lanes on highway 4 were shut down for about two hours. Chp says the officer is expected to survive. The driver that caused the accident was arrested and is facing several charges. People are talking about this next story all across the country. A couple in Riverside County faces torture charges when investigators call a disturbing case of abuse involving the couples 13 children. Deputies arrested david and Louise Turpin of perris after their 17yearold daughter escaped from the house and called 911. Investigators say the children ranging in age from 2 to 29 years old were shackled to their beds in dungeonlike conditions living in filth. Neighbors say they rarely saw the children. The older kids, they i thought were like 12 because they were so malnourished, so pale. So sad, so horrible. I cant believe this. I cant believe this. Its so sad. A 53yearold man and his dog have been found safe after those mud slides in montecito. Although there are still 20 people that have been confirmed dead and three others still missing. Last tuesdays mud slides covered a quarter mile stretch of highway 101. Officials estimate the mud was 6 to 9 feet deep in some areas. The focus is to keep digging up debris pile, send dogs through there, see if we can get a hit, get Something Like a concentrated area that we can work on. Right now its so widespread. The mud, some areas, are still real soupy. And if you are heading down there anytime soon, a headsup. Caltrans says part of it will remain closed due to repairs being done there. The owner spotted it on highway 101, called police. Officers say the driver got on highway 237 the wrong way. The truck crashed. The driver jumped out and then ran toward the sunnyvale golf course. Firefighters make all sorts of daring rescues but this one was a little bit different. Crews had to save a baby cow that ended up at the bottom of a well near petaluma.
