In the video, you can see there was a white pickup truck and vw that were northbound, another white pickup and a school bus that were heading southbound. The school bus was going to ellerhorst elementary. Somehow they collided on San Pablo Dam road. Thats been investigated. It happened at 8 10 this morning. Chp says it was misting rain. Now, the vw driver suffered serious internal injuries according to chp. Another adult had a broken leg. The School Bus Driver as we mentioned whos 34 weeks pregnant, all of them were taken to John Muir Medical Center in walnut creek. Now, there were seven kids on the bus, only one complained of pain. But out of an abundance of caution, chp says three of the kids were transported to Childrens Hospital oakland. Four others to kaiser in richmond. Again, San Pablo Dam road closed going on three hours right now. Drivers are coming up and having to loop around. It is closed. In both directions. There was some oil that spilled onto the roadway. Yeah, definitely down in the south bay. I wanted to show it to you. Look at that, 0e7en up the Weather Window on 101 and 880. See the light rain thats still falling. My storm impact scale, i brought it down to a 2 earlier this morning, now down to a 1. Thats going to last through 4 00. Because of the lingering light rainer er and showers we have u there. Especially the east bay and south bay. We could get there. It will be a little breezy for all of us. 15 to 25 miles per hour. Heres a look at live doppler 7. See how active it is down in the south bay and all the way down toward gilroy. Lets broaden it out. At least up to the north bay. Up to the east bay, i should say. Here we are in pittsburg, highway 4 out toward antioch and points northward. A few showers on marsh creek road. Well broaden it out. The low is down to our south. The low is backing rain toward us from the southeast. Thats why i think the east bay and the south bay still has a chance of some light rain, as you can see right here, over the next five or six hours. Well take a look back at yesterday. First we want get to Southern California dealing with the aftermath of mudslides that have left five people dead, in mo montecito in Santa Barbara county. This was the scene this morning. Look at this. Firefighters successfully rescued a 14yearold girl, see her on the right all covered in mud, but so happy to be alive. After she was trapped for hours inside a destroyed home in montecito. There were also mudslides in the nearby community of summerland. Thats where we find abc News Reporter matt gutman. Reporter this is literally the oeend of the road for us an hundreds of motorists this morning. This debris flow im told by eyewitnesss who got caught in it enveloped this highway president in minutes. 101. This is what 5 inches of rain in a few short hours can do here in Southern California. Reporter kristen, weve seen a pretty consistent shower over the last hour, hour and a half in downtown saratoga. The real issue is if you head up into the mountains because around a corner could be a dangerous slide. When it rains, it falls in the santa cruz mountains. The chp was called for some boulders in the road on highway 9 and Redwood Gulch road. Cal trans was busy in the area. Several inches of rain helped energize saratoga creek. Not everything was as peaceful as this. Weather conditions were rough when a wrongway driver on southbound 880 near the 237 interchange created a chaotic and horrific crash scene just before 5 00 a. M. I dont know where where he got on the freeway traveling the wrong direction, but it wasnt very far from here where we got the call. Reporter in the end, five vehicles were involved. The wrongway driver was killed and another person taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The morning commute through milpitas was a mess. In palo alto, stop signs were apparently just a suggestion for this truck. The power was out at the oregon expressway, and bryant street intersection. Gordon reid says his power went out about 11 30 last night during a heavy downpour. He woke up early to make cookies for the students in his astronomy class. The oven doesnt work unless i have electricity. So if i dont get it soon, i dont get the cookies baked and the students will be disappointed. Reporter were hearing more calls of slides in the santa cruz mountains, of course, you want to be extra careful when youre driving up there. In alameda county, a Police Pursuit turned into a manhunt after a weatherrelated crash. Police are looking for a fugitive to crashed into a tree then ran away from them. This giant tree fell in pleasanton because of the weather and got in the way of a man trying to escape from police. 32yearold marquis mcclinton of fremont was driving down the road with police in pursuit when he crashed his car into the oak tree. He gets out of the vehicle and takes off. Running into the woods. So, we set up a perimeter, we get a canine out there to start doing our search. We were unable to locate him. Reporter heres what happened before they encountered the tree. Officers on patrol in pleasant t ton at 3 45 this morning noticed his car driving near the first street area. Wanted to figure out what he was doing. There was some equipment issues with the vehicle, not quite sure if it was lightning or Something Else that was going on so the officer initiated a traffic stop. Reporter but they say instead of waiting for officers to approach the car, that he got out and walked toward police with his hands hidden. So the officer not 2340ei in whats going on draws his gun, starts ordering, giving commands to the person, to the driver. The driver turns around, gets in his car and takes off. Reporter the tree unexpectedly brought the chase to an end. A warning for all drivers that Rainy Weather can create surprise obstacles. Police thought for sure that someone would spot him this morning, see him walking and dripping wet, possibly. They have his car. But still no leads yet. They havent found him. Only two reporting stations, san jose and ukiah didnt quite mee reach 2 inches. Mountain view, 5 1 2 inches in kenfield. It was a big soaker. We got two records from yesterday. Daily records. The first one is san jose. 1. 4 inches yesterday. That sets a new record for that date. And even heavier rain fell in San Francisco. 3. 15 inches, and that made the old daily record of 2. 36 go by the wayside. Look what happened back in 1872. Now its the 16th wettest day ever in San Francisco. The Weather Service tweeted me this to show me our top five. Notice four of the top five were back from the 1800s. So no children were hurt in a serious way, but there are two critical injuries, and the pregnant driver. Were also keeping an eye on.
