Commute. Here is sue. A couple problems, bart is experiencing a major delay, this one out of lafayette due to equipment problems in the pittsburg direction, so heads up there. We start with a sig alert on 880, sky 7 is directly above what happened was a wrong way driver who started driving northbound in the southbound lanes of 880 and milpitas by 237, that caused multi vehicles to get involved in an accident. The left lane pardon me, the right lane, the slow lane is the only one getting by. Again, this is southbound 880 with multi vehicles, no estimated time of opening, try to use 680 or Dixon Landing to mission boulevard for your alternate. Its quite an extensive backup. Major backup there, sue, lets talk a little bit more about that. Abc 7 News Reporter matt keller is on the ground at that same scene in milpitas. Matt, what can you tell us . Reporter good morning, jessica. I just talked with the chp officer and she gave me an update on what is happening here and what is happening with the victims. Lets show you the big mess that is right in front of us here on southbound 880 right at the 237 interchange and you can see there are five vehicles that were involved in this crash, the green van is the van that the wrong way driver was in and that person suffered the most devastating injuries, major injuries, and that person, a male, was taken to the hospital and is has major injuries. So very serious there. Officers were initially saying this could be a possible fatality but theyre saying right now that that person is at the hospital. Theres only one other minor injury, a person taken to the hospital with minor injuries, complaints to the leg. Here is a live look from sky 7, you can see how big this backup is and just how expansive this crash is here on 880. When i talked to the chp they told us what happened when they first got that call. We had two calls very close together within a matter of minutes and our units were responding immediately. Got on the freeway traveling the wrong direction, but it wasnt very far from here where we got the call. Reporter and now the chp is investigating the crash, theyre trying to figure out exactly where that person got on on the freeway, they are also trying to investigate whether or not drugs and alcohol were involved in this crash, but right now weve got major traffic issues here on southbound 880, they say theyre expecting all lanes to be open in about two hours, theyre hoping to open up one more lane, but right now they have three lanes closed, all the interchanges to 237 are open so thats the good news, if you want to get around you can use that express lane and traffic is open in that direction. Back to you in the studio. We are also following some more breaking news and, again, this is this appears i should say to be weatherrelated. A Police Pursuit in the east bay ended after the driver tried to make a get away encountered major storm damage. Amy hollyfield live for us on Pleasanton Sunol road in pleasanton. Good morning, amy. Reporter yeah, we just got new information from pleasanton pd, they are now telling us they think this tree came down because of weather. Let me get out of the way so you can see this huge mess. A giant oak tree is blocking Pleasanton Sunol road here in pleasanton. This is this road is a twolane road that runs right alongside interstate 680, we are parallel to the interstate right now. What theyre telling us is that an officer was pursuing a car, they havent told us why, and then the car crashed into the tree that had already fallen. It was down and they believe because of the weather, the weather brought the tree down, the car crashed into it. They havent told us how that driver is doing, if anyone was injured when this happened. The car was just towed away moments ago so the tow truck operator was here, got the car out of here, but as you can see the tree is still here. This happened at 4 45 this morning and no movement yet on getting this tree cleaned up. It, loo like its going to take a while. It will be quite a protect getting all of these limbs out of here so until then this road is closed. Looks like it will be for a while. Live in pleasanton, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.
