Good news, we are starting to pair back or taper the storm. Now through 8 00 i will keep it a 2 because we have light to moderate rain possible in the east bay and south bay and standing water just about everywhere. The best radar returns are in those areas with it looks like around san mateen and possibly forgotten hill where we have the moderate showers. Here is a quick look at the roof camera, you can see some of that standing water on the embarcadero. My accuweather 12 hour planner, scattered showered at 7 00, isolated at noon, just about over by 4 00 and then its dry by 7 00 with temperatures in the low to mid 50s most of the day. Badly needed rain, but it makes driving treacherous and as mike said we are starting to improve the green on our maps means that it is raining for your commute, the blue means it is potential for standing water. Lets take a look at this slow traffic over the altamonte pass. There is a big pothole in the middle of the road, lane number three westbound 580 near north flynn, apparently three or four cars have been affected by it, they have pulled off to a gas station but slowing traffic out of the Central Valley for now, about a 45minute drive up and over the altamonte into livermore. Our Team Coverage on the rain and its impact continues with abc 7s matt keller. He is live in palo alto with more on what appears to be a power outage. Good morning, matt. Reporter good morning, natasha and reggie. This is something that can be very dangerous on a morning like this. Check it out. The lights are out here at oregon expressway and bryant street, this intersection here, so police have set up some stop signs, but it is obviously very dangerous and people are speeding through and coming to a screeching halt at times at the intersection. You want proof that people are going through this, though, check this out, this truck just blew through the light while another vehicle stopped. Other traffic lights are out at the city, about ten blocks of homes and businesses are out at oregon expressway and bryant street. The power went out about 11 30 last night when it was raining hard here in palo alto. The rain has stopped for now but we have yet to see any pg e trucks in the area. If you come across a stoplight or traffic light that has the power out, you are supposed to street it as a fourway stop. Reporting live in palo alto, matt keller. Its 5 03. Four people had to be taken to the hospital after this happened, two cars crashed headon it happened during heavy rain in brentwood. It happened just before 9 00 last night at the intersection of sand creek road and fairview avenue, you can see how badly damaged those cars are, several ambulances had to be called in to help with the people who were hurt. Despite raining at the time authorities have not said that water was specifically the cause of that crash. And in the north bay emergency officials worry about debris flow and mudslides because of the wildfires. For months they have been concerned about the complications rain could bring as it hit the barron soil. A dry december gave those crews extra time to clear storm drains and canals. You can see ropes of hay snaked down streeds to block debris in the burn areas. Right now were looking good but we want our community to remain vigilant, report something if they see it. If they see flooding, debris flow, please report it to 911. In Sonoma Sounty several trees came down on electric lines knocking out power to dozens of pg e customers. That power is now restored. In santa rosa firefighters had to battle the rain at a fire in a two story home on stone crest court. Their Quick Response combined with the rain helped keep the fire from spreading to neighboring homes and brush. Everyone inside made it out okay. And the south bay had its share of accidents yesterday. Chp advises everyone to slow down. Flooding and slick roads made for a frustrating combination on 280 and 101. In fact, a driver was killed yesterday afternoon after losing control and hitting a tree on page mill road in palo alto. The chp reported some two dozen accidents on highway 17 alone. I dont like driving in the rain. I get nervous because other people dont know how to drive or they seem to slow down and there is no need to brake and everyone acts crazy when its raining. Its scary, there is a lot of crazy drivers out there. Im afraid of my children especially if im driving with them inside of the car. So the chp reminds us to keep the proper amount of air in our tires, make sure our windshield wipers are clean and in Good Condition because being broken down on the side of the road can make you the hazard. So far flood barriers and sandbags are doing their jobs in San Franciscos Mission district. They are in front of businesses and homes along the stretch of fulsome street that has been known for flooding in the past. A strike team is on call in case any flooding problems do arise and the city is working on a longterm solution to improve storm drainage in that area. And we do need the rain. All the reservoirs in the south bay are now standing at a little more than half of the normal average during this time of year. Water Officials Say the rain is encouraging considering we had a dry december. Reggie, i want to jump in here because that same storm thats hitting the bay area is extending into Southern California and at this very minute they are experiencing some big problems. Right now we do have mandatory and voluntary evacuations in effect. 180 homers have been told to leave. There is mandatory evacuations in burbank. The big concern there right now is mudslides. Heavy rain coming down right now is predicted, its supposed to come down during the morning commute. Look at this, its kind of what weve been seeing here in the bay area recently, they also have a big rig flipped on its side and there has been some problems and flooding on the 101 freeway right now, so similar to what weve seen here in the bay area in the last 24 hours. Back to you. Were getting reports of light rain around santa rosa up healdsbu healdsburg, they are going to be wet. Weve got one of our better radar wurns returns on 237 and 101 so if youre returns through those areas there may be new puddles to contend with. The same thing around san ramone down to Castro Valley and dublin. This trainingel is seeing some of the heavier radar returns. We could have more puddles on those roads. Temperatures are mild this morning, 52 to about 57 in antioch. We have 52 in pittsburg. Low to mid 50s in our inland east bay neighborhoods. It originally started with a wrong way driver headed in the wrong direction on southbound 880 and that resulted in a major crash. Right now we are not seeing the slowing on our sensors but we will check back in just a bit. Avoid the area if you can. Take 101 through milpitas or 101 over to 237 to get to milpitas.
