He was on maximum enforcement patrol on the side of interstate 880 looking for drivers under the influence when chp says their vehicle was hit by one of those drivers. The suspect involved in the fatal crash was taken to the hospital where he remains this morning. Camilleri leaves behind a wife and three children. The chp said that the driver who caused that crash is suspected of being and you the influence of both alcohol and marge. That is a major concern for people, especially those concerned that drivers wont be tested for pot impairment specifically as the drug becomes legal next monday. Investigators believe that discarded smoking material sparked that fire. And developing news out of Southern California this morning where firefighters are still battling the thomas fire. The fire has burned more than 281,000 acres and is 86 contained. The u. S. Forest service expects full containment by january 7th. More than 700 homes have been destroyed and the fire is also blamed for two deaths, including a firefighter from san diego. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Reporter hi, jessica. Yes, this department is broken hearted and the community is responding. Look at these flowers that people have left here at this chp office. The department put out a statement thanking everyone for all the love and support. 33 years Andrew Camilleri was killed at midnight or just before midnight Christmas Eve christmas morning. It was on 880 in pay ward. There has been such a huge response from the community that the chp credit union is now working to set up a fund that people can donate to for camilleris family. He and his partner were on the shoulder of the highway doing enforcement when a car slammed into them. Investigators said yesterday the driver of the car was speeding and under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. I am not only disappointed, but also angered in that i had to notify a mother and three children that their father had deceased at a local hospital after being impacted by an individual who chose to drive ei remember responsibly.
