The chp actually put out a statement to thank everyone for this tremendous outpouring of support from the unit. 33yearold officer Andrew Camilleri was killed at midnight Christmas Morning when the car he and his partner was in was slammed into by a red cadillac. It happened on southbound 880 in hayward. Investigators say the driver of this car was speeding and was under the influence, that he had just left a party. This person, a 22yearold from hayward, chose to drive while under the influence of alcohol and also drugs, and this needs to stop. Reporter in hayward friends and neighbors visited the home of the driver. The chp has not released his name yet. They said they offer their condolences to the officers family, they also told us the 22yearold driver is married and has a new baby. He is in the hospital in serious condition.
