Abc 7 news learned that the county sheriff was pursuing the vehicle that crashed into the gates. Its believed five people were inside the car, including a burglary suspect under surveillance by santa clara police. All five people were taken into custody by Travis Air Force base police. Within the last hour, the house revoted to pass the gop tax bill which was just approved by the senate last night. President trump will hold a celebration in the next hour at the white house. The democrats dont like to see tax cutting, they like to see tax increases and they like to complain. Reporter the president and gop leaders promising jobs. Investigators say that the officer was responding to a report of a suicidal person with a weapon. It happened around 7 30 last night at san clemente and paradise drive. Police said the manmade motions towards his waistband and one officer opened fire. That man is receiving treatment. The officer who ohmed fire is on paid a mrtive leave. One person is in custody this morning after police searched a home in san jose. This was a big operation involving a Police Robbery unit, s. W. A. T. Team, and other officers. They were investigating several violent carjackings and armed robberies. Officer arrested a man yesterday. Thats the ruling from last nights city council meeting. The move rejects the recommendation from a civilian commission board. There were concerns that wind and volatile crowds could prevent officers from pepper spraying one person. The city overturned a 20yearold ban on pepper spray in september in response to a series of political protests that turned violent. This keeps happening. Police say it needs to stop. People pointing lasers at planes. Who incidents were reported just last night at Oakland International airport. The pilot of a fedex plane says he was hit with the laser two miles from the airport. Chp says lasers are extremely dangerous, they can cause blindness or temporary vision loss. So far, police have not made any arrests. The thomas fire burning in Southern California is now the second largest in our states history. Firefighters have been able to make some progress, but heavy winds are expected to pick back up again today. About 272,000 acres have burned in the thomas fire. The National Transportation safety board says the emergency brake was not activated by the trains engineer, it was triggered automatically when the train derailed. The train was going 80 Miles Per Hour in a 30 mile per hour zone at the time of the crash. It went off the rails and on to interstate 5 on monday morning. The engineer of the amtrak train is still hospitalized right now. Everything is under scrutiny, including cell phone use. Its protocol for us to look at all of the cell phone records of all the crew members whenever there is an accident of this type. The crash killed three people and more than 70 others were hurt. There is a new poll shows most San Francisco voters want the city to repair roads and strengthen Public Transportation including b. A. R. T. And muni. They feel Companies Like uber and lyft should be paying for the repairs. A survey shows 59 of voters support imposing a new tax on ride hailing and food delivery services. A boston arch bishop who resigned amid the sex abuse scandal has died. The vatican confirmed the death this morning. He died in rome where he previously served as arch priest. Law resigned amid allegations that he and others had covered up for pedophile priests. He was 86 years old. Well new at 11 00 now, judge dismissed a lawsuit by a man who claimed Michael Jackson molested him as a child. He says he first met the pop star when he was five years old. He testified during the singers criminal trial that he spent the night many times been but said under oath jackson never molested him. Then in 2014, four years after jackson died, he filed over seven years. The judge did not rule on the credibility of those allegations, but said since the two defendants in the case are corporations, they cannot be held liable for the mans exposure to jackson. Meanwhile, lululemon protected a store manager who sexually harassed coworkers and sexual assaulted one of them. He was relocatd after numerous complaints about him. They dropped more than 100 boxes by parachute. And finally it morning, you have to see this. A baby sea turtle on a tiny little treadmill. Oh my goodness. Researchers in Florida Atlantic university came up with this unusual test. They know that baby turtles race to the ocean after hatching, but what happens when city lights pull them in the wrong direction. The researchers were surprised, they expected light disoriented turtles to be so exhausted theyd have trouble swimming when they finally reach the water. They found instead the babies are actually very good at gauging their reserves, they take frequent rests so they didnt get too tired. And they were just fine.
