Guys . Frances, thank you. The jury in the kate steinle murder trial is entering a faith day of deciding the fate of Jose Ines Garcia zarate. Its a case thats garnered national attention. Amy hollyfield is live at the San Francisco hall of justice. Good morning, amy. Reporter good morning, matt. If you are thinking this jury is taking a long time, think again. We checked with the prosecutor across the bay who said this amount of time is not unusual. Murder trials can last for weeks in terms of deliberations, or they can come back very quickly in a couple of days. If they come back today i would say that was a very quick verdict. Reporter the jury is trying to decide whether to convict Jose Ines Garcia zarate of murder. Zarate says he picked up a gun he found on the ground, and it just went off. Prosecutors believe he deliberately pointed it and fired at kate steinle walking with her father at pier 14 when she was shot and killed. The shooting brought attention to San Franciscos sanctuary city law and thats because zarate, who had a criminal record, was set to be deported by federal officials but local authorities in the sanctuary city law allowed him to stay here. This morning the chp is investigating a highspeed chase in martinez that ended with the suspects car crashing. Investigators say officers tried to stop the car on highway 4 just after 10 00 p. M. After receiving reports of a group of cars getting ready to race. The female driver took off and the pursuit started. Officials say the driver tried to exit while going about 100 miles an hour and lost control and crashed. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Officials say she was be booked into jail when she is released. Two passengers also have minor injuries. Now to an overnight fire in the east bay. It broke out in san leandro near joaquin avenue. The Alameda County Fire Department posted these photos on its Instagram Page that show crews putting out the fire. Officials say a woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. She was not taken to the hospital. No one else was hurt. The San Francisco board of supervisors has approved regulations for the sale of marijuana. Once it becomes legal in january. Supervisors voted a 600foot buffer zone between stores and schools yesterday. Some members of the citys chinese immigrant community were asking for a much larger barrier. The board rejected provision that is would allow them to limit the number of pot shops or ban them outright. This breaking news from tampa where police say they have arrested a 24yearold man in connection to a string of recent homicides. They say they arrested him yesterday after a tip he had a gun at a mcdonalds. The suspects name is Howell Emanuel donaldson now charged with four counts of firstdegree murder. You may remember that police had been on the manhunt for a possible serial killer in the area for nearly two months. Four people have been killed in that particular area since october 9th. His lawyers say that he was a minor player in the scheme organized by russian intelligence officers. Three russian men are also accused. A federal indictment says more than half a billion yahoo accounts were exposed. Happening today moscows ambassador to the United States will be in San Francisco to inspect the former russian consula consulate. It was left in september after washington ordered moscow to vacate some of its diplomatic properties. The move came as relations soured between the two countries.
