Metallica, dead and company and several other bay area bands helped raise 17 million thursday night for fire victims. The money will go to the Tipping Point Emergency Relief Fund which helps low income communities affected by the fires. The relief fund has raised a total of 23 million. Happening today, Sonoma County is hosting a resource fair to connect fire victims with government debris removal programs. Todays fair is at the Utilities Field Office in santa rosa from 10 00 until noon. If you miss it, dont worry, theres another fair tomorrow at the santa rosa veteransand mond. Caltrans will bring down the old eastern span of the bay bridge. This is caltrans video from two weeks ago when three piers were imploded. Traffic will be briefly stopped today. Alabama Senate Candidate roy moore is denying a claim that he had sexual encounters with a 14yearold girl. In a radio interview with sean hannity, moore called Leigh Corfmans claim, quote, completely false and misleading and says he didnt know her from anybody. Corfman said the encounter was in 1979 when moore was 32 and she was 14. Three other women claim moore either asked them out or took them on dates when he was an adult and they were underage. Moore says he doesnt remember dating teenagers as an adult and says that would be inappropriate. He says the claims are politically motivated. Congressman mo cana says he believes moores supporters should withdraw their support. Every elected leader should make that clear. Where do they stand . Two republican senators withdrew their endorsements of moore yesterday after his radio interview. Time now, 5 32. House democrats are hoping that they can win back a majority in the house next year after three more republicans announced their retirement this week. Altogether, 29 republicans have decided not to seek reelection compared to only 11 democrats. The latest is House Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte of virginia. Goodlattes district will likely not flip to a democrat. President trump won that district by 25 points last year. Republicans on capitol hill are going full steam ahead with their tax reform plans with just 16 working days left before christmas. The house and senate have proposed their own versions. And the goal is to merge the two bills into one by the end of the year. The centerpiece of both bills is tax cuts but there are major differences in how those would be accomplished. Corporate america is definitely going to see the senate bill as a loss. Both of these plans add to the deficit, 1. 5 trillion is what would be added to the deficit over ten years. And there is a real concern about what that would mean for the overall economy in the long run. The house is expected to take a vote next week. The senate will begin debate on theirs in committee on monday. On that note, House Minority leader nancy pelosi has criticized republicans for working at the speed of light in the dark of night to get this bill passed quickly without from democrats. Congresswoman pelosi calls the plan a scam. Reporter republicans in california have distanced themselves from their constituents in new york and new jersey when it comes to he thought deductions for state and local taxes. These deductions are made at the time of filing yearly taxes. People in new york, new jersey, and california have benefitted from these deductions because the cost of living is so high. In the end, if the tax reform plan passes, taxpayers in those states who itemize their deductions would end up paying more. Shame on the republicans in california for selling their constituents down the river. Reporter but the chairman of the Republican Party in San Francisco says it makes sense to him. I think California Republicans are really focused on the egalitarian aspect, the idea that if we eliminate a lot of these deductions, everybody aross the country, even in california, will get a benefit from it. Reporter and with regard to those massive wildfires in northern california, people there will still be able to take a deduction on their losses from their 2017 tax returns. But after that, under the proposed republican plans, those deductions will disappear. The same applies for earthquakes but not for hurricanes. California, a blue state, doesnt have hurricanes. Its just meanspirited. But remember this. 14 republicans from california voted, knowing that was in the bill.
