Fire crews are also making steady progress this morning on the north bay fires. The Redwood Valley fire in Mendocino County is 95 contained. While the sulfur fire is 96 contained. Napa and solano counties the atlas fire 87 contained. Nuns fire is 85 contained. The pocket fire at 82 containment. And the tubbs fire which ravaged santa rosa 93 contained. Tour companies and winery owners in napa want the public to know now that the fires are nearly 100 contained, they are open for business. Much of the lush wine growing valley remains intact. Damage to the most popular areas is limited or nonnonexistent. One Tour Company Owner says that hasnt stopped people from canceling, already lost about 30,000 from the cancelations and a half dozen of his employees have no word. To date weve canceled 38 tours we had booked and for a small threecar limousine operation, thats huge. Porter vineyards is also ready for visitors. Employees with hoses and shovels stopped the flames just one road shy of the vineyards. And more than half the grapes had already been harvested. Overnight rain was a welcome sight for firefighters trying to contain the bear fire burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Cooler temperatures, little to no wind and the rain stopped the fire from growing. Wasnt a whole lot especially when were in timber country but it was enough to keep the temperatures cool and give the firefighters the upper hand in controlling this fire. Reporter the fire is now 40 contained and Holding Steady at 320 acres. The Santa Cruz Sentinel is reporting the bear fire started on a property that was the site of a chop shop bust in 2015. About a dozen burnedout vehicles were found in the area. People in the los cumbras neighborhood were allowed back to their homes but an Evacuation Order remains in place to where the fire is burning. A lot of safety factors were looking at before we let the homeowners back in, want to make sure the roads are repaired, those are safe, no trees that could fall down over the roads or power lines. The train engineer activated the brakes and sounded the horn but couldnt stop in time. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Arraignment scheduled this afternoon for the man charged with hitting a San Francisco police officer, leaving him critically injured. Officer lewintankel remains in intensive care. He had to undergo emergency surgery on wednesday after getting hit by a man driving a stolen suv. Tankels injuries come as quite the shock for those who trained with him at the bay jujitsu on mission street. The trainer credits tankel with changing his life. Police are looking for a carjacker who ran over and killed the vehicles owner. The victim has been identified as 46yearold James Figueroa jr.
