The rig behind me is on guard duty. They are going to hold this line, the dozer line right here at highway fighters in calistoga intend to battle back any fires that cross any lines. The fires backing into highway 29, we want to make sure we keep it on the north side of highway 29, so were making sure the switch backs but keep the heat out because the slight chance in the wind will blow the fire back over the road. In the meantime, fires hovered over hedge making water drops near the summit and near Robert Lewis Stevenson state park. All the efforts above have not been lost on the residence below down in calistoga. Like this family that left a message and snacks in front of their evacuated homes. Some residence have decided to stay behind, theyre feeling more at ease now theyre still well aware. This fire above them is still far from out. I think the other night when the wind was supposed to come out we took shift sleeping just in case. Same goes from the tireless fighters on the front lines. Hows everybody doing . Were moving along here, we got folks here that have been on the line for a long period of time. We have a job to do and going to make sure we get it done. Live to the Sonoma County fairgrounds with the sheriff. I got to get people to understand this is a dangerous event ks its not over. So, first warnings is theres a couple of graphic language parts in the state, if youre running live theyre not cut. Were going to stream it on Facebook Live and not cut out the graphic language so its really not appropriate for children if youre watching on Facebook Live but its human, real, honest and transport so were going to show it like it is. With that said im going to ask them to start the tape. Ill answer questions about the tape and everything else, well move to that. [inaudible] [inaudible]. All right what youre watching is body cam video shown by the Sonoma County sheriff. Presumably of the fire fight, yeah. And we will warn you there may be some language that the sheriff warned us about, they decided not to edit that out. He put it may not be suitable for children but its very human and real. You can see as firefighters go into some of the areas evacuating people, they have their flashlights, theyre walking into the fire zone with embers flying. This is what theyre showing us for the very first time. Lets listen for a moment see what we see. Sheriff wants to see carry out, ready. Hold on hold on hold on hold on. The house on fire. You got to get it up. Okay hold on. There we go. Watch your leg watch your leg watch your leg. Watch your leg watch yoush leg. Sir, you got to go. The fires right there, another unit youre trank can you get out . Windows [inaudible]. Windows. I got [inaudible]. 5555 they are sheriff what do you make of the evacuation area in fact springs area . George bush snauld two elderly that [inaudible]. Please dont hit me. [inaudible]. There was a resident on 2020. Fire okay. 49 sample pass. [inaudible]. What have we done on [inaudible]. [inaudible]. We got to keep pushing the evacuations as far west as i can. As i said cal fires they dont have a lot of containment so theyre going to continue to push the fire. Be ready to evacuate 101 all the way to red line. Damn. [inaudible]. [inaudible]. Sheriffs office this is a mandatory evacuation orders. Leave your homes. Looks like everybodys leaving. We need 10q, door to door, we need a unit out hoar to do that. Go, go, go. Go, go, go, go. Drive, go [inaudible]. So, the point i want to emphasize is thats a terrible scene. Thats one deputys camera. Minutes of clips from the hours he was up there. There were 15 other deputies during the same thing. I personally listened to the radio the entire time it was happening and heard the radio traffic it never stopped. I really need people to understand stay out. If this fire goes back up its dangerous. With that let me add this, this is on facebook too. Pick it up if you dont happen. Ill answer any questions. The extent of injuries that happened during fire . I know there are injuries, i dont know how many though. That night people were transported to burn centers. When you say pick up the new technologies sorry i dont know where that was. One of the body you recovered from so the question was there was a report that there was one of the bodies located from the journey inn trailer park . Yes. Very well could be. Our team has been there for a while today so that could be it. [ inaudible question ] im sorry . How is the search team coping . How is the search team coping. Its a difficult job but they do it. Its hard work, its difficult work but its rewarding in the respect that you realize youre doing something really important to families, and you take some pride in that piece of it and that balances out some of that. That takes an emotional toll. Are they safe out there, do they have enough people with them . Yes, so thats actually the question was about the safety for the workers and these environments. Obviously a lot of danger out there. Theres a lot of has mat concerns, so theyre suiting up in gear to go and do this. Theyre checking for safety. Theyre doing fine. These people, this is what they do. Were using mostly search and rescue people, we send them out to search for all kinds of things. Not that they search fires all time, some have that experience but this is not unusual. [ inaudible question ] no, we have not looked at all the video. I have spoken to many of the deputies that came off the hill that night. Their eyes were red and burning from the smoke. The intensity was unbelievable. I had a deputy come down off mark west saying i never had seen a fire move like that. I was right there when he got off the hill you can see the intensity in what he saw. Ive never been in a fire like that, the look on his face i dont want to be there. [ inaudible question ] this was early the story im telling was early before fountaingrove but it was all of kind at at one. But after this point [inaudible]. They were still doing it in different areas. The areas in evacs went on for several hours. That little clip of tape you saw goes on for hours if youre able to listen to the radio tracker for hours, they keep moving the vac ways up. We saw an officer [inaudible]. Im very very very happy their still safe because thats a difficult thing to do. Ive told this story too. There was a deputy stuck at Mark West Lodge who tried to come down, they got stopped. This other people tried to get out, saw the deputy and met them. There were people that stayed with the deputy and they waited for the the fire so they were lucky. Any deputies injured . Deputies injured, no. Have you had any chance to [ inaudible question ] yeah. The question was have you had a chance to give our deputies counsels or any support for that. Yes, weve had support teams come into the office. Weave had counsellors offer their services, a peer support program. Yes, weve started and yes, well do more. You get an update on looting . So ill talk about looting for a second and arrests. We havent the looting in our jurisdiction the looting reports havent been significant. Theres been what we call suspicious persons in the area. Some of them as residents we schizophren asked them to get out and leave. We made five arrests monday for people we suspected for lootings. One of them had charges one had a gun. We didnt catch people looting but we suspect thats what they were there for. Not a significant problem in our district. [ inaudible question ] i havent heard of any reports of arson i shouldnt say it that way. I heard them talking about that but theres no arson in our area were aware of. [ inaudible question ] yeah i dont think so. I think its unrealistic to consider that. All the repopulation teams, theyre working really hard. Pgbs up there putting everything back together. The other Utility Service putting everything back together. The reality is were really worried about where this fires going tonight and tomorrow. Were not beginning to put people back in and have the fire blow out. I wouldnt think about going back until monday. Thats my best guess on what im sighi sigh seeing happen. [ inaudible question ] so the question is whats happened alexander valley, the fires moving south. Its moving south towards residences so were evacuating that area. Right now mandatory evacuations. Yes. The status of [inaudible]. Current status of the city of sonoma. Last i heard it was doing well. Theyre looking at potential areas out there, it could be a problem but we havent had significant movement. Sheriffs offices nixel and facebook. Were posting onyx l punish and english. Were posting on facebook spanish and english. And theyre trans scribing all the comments. Advisory in this kind of fire, leave. Theres no reason to get stuck in traffic waiting around. Find a way to get out now. Any areas that are going to be un [inaudible]. I would say anywhere near these fires there should be concern. Watch out for the advisories what theyre putting out ahead of time, im not aware of any coming yet. [ inaudible question ] i heard heard anything about that. All right thank you for coming i appreciate it. Get the word out. Stay safe. All right youre listening to the Sonoma County sheriff, rob, updating the media on what has transpired today. At the top of that News Conference probably the most compelling thing was body cam video showing a sheriffs deputy racing through neighborhoods, overrun by flames. Flames all around the patrol car as he calmly but urgently ordered people to get out. Really remarkable to see. Bravery, the calm he exhibited and the sheriff said he was one of the 15 deputies doing the same thing. What you watch that you can imagine, theyre trained observes but nobodys really trained to do Something Like that. Imagine yours in that that that the reason they showed that because they want you to realize the danger. If they tell you to go, please thats what youre facing. Yes.
