Friends, relatives, even strangers gathered at a vigil tonight in novato for Stacee Etcheber, one of the 59 People Killed in sundays mass shooting. Abc 7 News ReporterCornell Barnard was at the memory p. And certainly a very touching tribute. Reporter yeah, dan and kristen, a very moving vigil tonight here in novato. Vinnie etcheber, husband, brought his kids to the vigil tonight. The family did not speak to the crowd, but the crowd definitely spoke to them. We want you to know that we love you. Reporter heavy hearts and words of comfort for San FranciscoPolice OfficerVinnie Etcheber and his young son and daughter, who are now without their mom. Hundreds came to San Ramon Elementary School in novato to light candles for Stacee Etcheber, a role model parent with an amazing spirit. If stacee was here tonight we would hear her say hey, toots, ive got you, hold on. Reporter stacee and her husband were in las vegas for a concert which became a shooting massacre. Vinnie ran to help victims and told stacee to run for cover. She was killed. I guarantee you his wife tried to help people out too. Thats just who those two were. Reporter brotherinlaw al etcheber says his family is grieving. His young niece and nephew still trying to understand. They have one question. The question was why . Why did he shoot mommy . You know. And we didnt have an answer. There are no easy answers except there is pure evil in the world. Reporter Vinnie Etcheber was supported by nearly a dozen San Francisco motorcycle officers. The unit he once rode with. Its a really tough time for our department. For the city of San Francisco, here in novato. Everybodys grieving. We choose love and were there for you. Reporter the community vowing their support to the etcheber family, bringing light and love to a dark hour. In novato, Cornell Barnard, abc 7 news. Both Stacee Etcheber and another alum nah from California High School in san ramon died in the shooting. 57yearold denise cohen grew up in san ramon but most recently lived in Santa Barbara county, where she worked as a property manager. A third bay area woman also died. 32yearold michelle vo is a san jose native. She had been living in Southern California and working as an insurance agent. Friends say she was brave and loved to explore. Were learning many more details tonight about the gunmans tactics and the investigation into the mass shooting. The focus right now is on the gunmans girlfriend. Just a few hours ago Marilou Danley landed at l. A. X. , returning from the philippines, where she was at the time of the shooting. Federal investigators greeted her at the airport. Meantime, weve got our first look inside the hotel room where shooter Stephen Paddock assembled an arsenal. Investigators revealed paddock likely converted semiautomatic weapons into automatic weapons. And a Hotel Security guard heroically tried to stop the shooting. As the gunfire began, he approached paddocks room. Paddock fired through the door, wounding the man. Abc News Reporter lana zac has the latest. Reporter good evening, dan. We are learning so many new details including how many guns the shooter possessed. 47. But still there is no word as to his motive. Las vegas is still in shock. It seems surreal. Seems like a bad nightmare. I keep seeing it in my mind still and it haunts me. Reporter the survivors, many still in the hospital, are trying to make sense of it all. It still hasnt like fully hit me. Its kind of starting to. But not fully. Reporter hannah ailers, a mother of three. Charleston hartfield, an offduty Police Officer. And navy veteran christopher roybal. And he went to combat and came back without being injured and goes to a concert and dies. Reporter and for the first time were seeing that night from the perspective of the police. Go, go, go, go, go. Reporter authorities releasing body cam footage from that night and piecing together the timeline. He fired off and on for somewhere between 9 and 11 minutes. Reporter they are also releasing chilling new details about what was happening on that room on the 32nd floor of the mandalay bay hotel. You can see it here. Ammunition and guns still on the floor. And in addition to what was happening inside theres more information about what was taking place just outside that room. There were two cameras located in the hallway. So that the suspect could watch as Law Enforcement or security approached his room. Reporter and with so many Unanswered QuestionsAuthorities Say they are very interested in speaking with the woman who lived with the shooter. She was out of the country at the time, but abc news can confirm that she landed just tonight at l. A. X. Reporting from las vegas, lana zac, abc news. And tonight there are signs of slow but steady progress here. Las vegas boulevard, the iconic strip, is finally back open in both directions. Theres also this growing memorial as the city is just trying to put one foot in front of the other for now. Slowly things are beginning to move forward in las vegas. These people just trying to get their cars so they can eventually get back to work and errands. I thought i was going to be able to just come and pick up my car with my i. D. , have it ready. But theres a line. I dont even think im going to be able to go home today. I cant really do nothing without my car. Ive just got to sit and wait like everyone else. Reporter hundreds of cars were left at the concert venue when people ran for their lives. Were also just starting to learn about the hundreds of people it took to respond in the hours after the mass shooting. Folks like psychiatrist john werjo. We had our own specific roles. Mine was to address patients already in the hospital trying to figure out what beds we could free up to open them up for the victims that came in from this horrific event. Reporter hes a uc berkeley alum who now lives in las vegas. So as a psychiatrist my work really starts from here on out. And its going to be more of a marathon. Im just thinking of all the time running and hiding. Reporter survivors often replay the events. Just sitting at the casino last night eating at one of the restaurants and somebodys slot machine went off and just hear that ttt it was like reporter sharing a tight hug today. They returned to the scene hoping to heal some of their emotional wounds. Im still trying to process it all. Reporter and a quick update on one of those victims. Joanna. Her boyfriend had to go back to the e. R. Today. He was shot in the arm. He is doing just fine, but they missed their flights. So they are going back to california tomorrow. She will be back in the bay area tomorrow. And frankly, that is the mood out here. Everyone just playing things by ear. And taking things one step at a time. Its a terrifying situation and the loss, grief, and cause td by the shooting is not limited to those who attended the concert. How to cope with the stress of what happened. Reporter Valerie Loera is having trouble sleeping. The gilroy mother was one of thousands of people who ran from a hail of bullets sunday night. I know wham going to do. Im going to call my doctor. Because i cant take it. When i close my eyes all i can hear is pap, pap, pap, pap. And people are screaming and falling. Reporter mental heal prochlgss say it will cause stress and anxiety for the survivors. It will also be a trigger for those who experienced a past trauma. Psychologists say watching video of the shooting over and over again on tv or online can be unhealthy. If you want the latest information about it some suggest instead of watching it read about it. So that youre not watching those petrified faces and people on gurneys or madeup gurneys. Its very traumatizing. Its very upsetting. Its changed me. I will not go to a theme park. I will not go to a movie theater. I will never go to a baseball game. Reporter Santa Clara University psychology professor tom plant says making rash decisions will not be productive. He says sometimes doing something positive much like those who donated blood can be healing. Its more important for folks to kind of rally around the resources that they have and be thoughtful about okay, what can i do to help myself and other people . Reporter plant encourages those who are affected by the shooting to reach out to loved ones and seek professional help if needed. In san jose jeanine de la vega, abc 7 news. And theyll be encouraged to Alert Management if they feel anything suspicious about items. Two north bay couples helped save lives in las vegas. Justin and Jennifer Mcgrath can be seen here using fences as makeshift stretchers to get people out of there. The sebastopol couple were with their friends kim schubert and joel wall. Wall is a trained emt and he and mcgrandmother gave people cpr. Jennifer says its hard to describe the chaos. I cant formulate or tell you or show emotion or anything thats going to explain how that night felt. New at 11 00, San Francisco supervisors ruled former oakland mayor jean quan cannot open a highend medical Marijuana Dispensary in the sunset district. Board chambers in an overflow room were filled with people both for and against the apothecarium cannabis club. The City Planning Commission approved it in july saying it promotes a more equitable distribution of dispensaries citywide but the Pacific Justice institute appealed saying it would be harmful to the neighborhood. All the trees are, you know, fell down. The food only you have in some places canned food. Reporter also today the president met with hurricane victims, passed out supplies, and spoke with government officials insisting help will continue. I hate to tell you, puerto rico, but youve thrown our budget a little out of whack. Reporter but those here are sure Puerto Ricans are not a priority. If floridians and texans were being told they would have that they would be without power for six months, i mean, there would be a massive outcry.
