Reporting live in San Francisco, Amy Hollyfield, abc 7 news. And the other big story this morning, Hurricane Maria, look at that, right now its a category 5 storm. It is barreling toward puerto rico and the u. S. Virgin islands. Its expected to hit there sometime tomorrow. Maria briefly dropped to a category 4 overnight after it slammed into the island of dominica. No words on injuries or deaths there so far, but we do know there is widespread damage. Puerto rico has already declared a state of emergency. Task force one which is in Southern California is now on stand by to head over to the island. Now lets get over to the weather desk where mike nicco is looking at where maria is heading. Unfortunately the video out of dominica is going to be a lot like st. Martin and the other islands, even though the winds were 160, 16 o 0, 185 not of a difference. Lee is a nonplayer, jose a wind and wave event for the northeast and maria is becoming the big monster that we were afraid it would be, now it is up to a category 5 with those 160 mile per hour winds, the fastest winds are in the red, thats where we will see the most damage. It goes right over the Virgin Islands and right into the eastern third of puerto rico tomorrow morning. Thats where were going to have devastation. Then it weakens a little bit as it heads towards the turks and caicos. The difference between irma and maria, you can see irma went definitely south while it looks like maria is going to go a lot more north. Fingers crossed that it misses the United States but if it comes close it will be the carolinas. Mike, thank you. Abc 7 News Reporter matt keller has more on the bay area setting a record that, matt, nobody wants. Good morning, alexis. Yes, congratulations to everyone here in the bay area, this is the fourth Consecutive Year in a row that congestion has reached a record high. So what are you in . You get to spend an extra three and a half minutes stuck in traffic. I know it doesnt sound like much of a prize but there is actually a good side to all of this. This all comes from a new report, the metropolitan Transportation Commission unveiled its yearly analysis of bay area congestion. The most congested commutes are in the afternoon. Number one, the 280 interchange in San Francisco, number two is interstate 80 from hercules to San Francisco, thats the only one in the top ten congested in both the morning and afternoon commutes, and number three is where we are at on 101 from Mountain View to san jose. The good news with all this traffic, you most likely have a job to go to. So when you look at it in some kind of historical perspective, what really pops is that the time that drivers are spending in traffic with speeds of 35 miles an hour or less is up 80 since 2010 which was the bottom of the great recession. Reporter even though the afternoons are most congested the mtc says there has been a big shift to more traffic earlier on the morning. More people on the road a. M.
