The two were hurt last night, it was around 8 30 here at this safeway on lewelling boulevard in san leandro. Investigators were trying to stop a shoplifter. Witnesses say he had a basket full of bottles, possibly alcohol. And he put it in his trunk when the female officer grabbed him by the waist. The subject was able to start his vehicle, put it in gear, and drive away with the officer still in the doorway of the vehicle. Both officers sustained injuries from the vehicle running them over. I thought i was going to get hit because as soon as he, you know, backed up, he he he he he and he servwerved to his left. Thats when the officer fell down. Reporter police have not made an arrest or released any information about the man who did this. Take a look at this live picture, we can see that the safeway does have surveillance cameras. If it captured anything that can help them in this investigation, we dont know. We know the Police Department is looking into it, but the san leandro Police Department has not responded to our numerous inquiries this morning. Scores of graffiti on the Library Building at 14th and madison streets. Police say it was tagged over the weekend. Cleanup is now under way. A member of the cleanup crew tells abc 7 the markings are believed to be an attribute to the graffiti artist named animal. San Francisco Police are investigating an Early Morning robbery and shooting that happened in the Mission District just before 1 00 a. M. On cap street near 17th. Two pedestrians were approached by two people in a car, at least one person was armed in a gun. After a short struggle over the victims wallets and phones, shots were fired and one victim was shot in the leg. The person was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. The suspects took off with the stolen items. Officers have not yet released their descriptions. Gilroy firefighters and police are investigating the cause of a twoalarm fire at the Salvation Army building. The fire started just after 2 00 this morning. A tractor trailer caught fire in the loading dock. The building has some smoke and water damage. No one was inside the building and no firefighters were hurt. In developing news, hundreds of people marched peacefully through the streets of st. Louis this morning in stark contrast to last nights violence. Abc news is reporting more than 80 people were arrested overnight, many for acts of vandalism. This was the third night in a row that protests turned violent. The protests are in response to an acquittal of a white Police Officer in the shooting death of a black man. Authorities are leaving no doubt whos in charge. For the third day in a row, the nights have been the days have been calm, and the nights have been destructive. Were in control. This is our city. And were going to protect it. About 100 people have been arrested since friday. The department of justic will not review the acquittal because of lack of sufficient evidence. New details this midday on the deadly crash that left three people dead in new york city. A city bus and a charter bus collided this morning in queens. In addition to the three deaths, 16 were injured. All of the victims were quickly taken off the buses but one of the driver was pinned and had to be extricated. The issue is not money but staffing. Nurses claim theres not enough of them to take care of patients. Well, we dont have enough time to spend with our patients, we dont have the resources to take care of them. So that provides unsafe patient care. The nurses contract expires at the end of the month.
