Rescue wing are prepared to leave this morning for florida. They will help provide search and rescue support for those affected by Hurricane Irma. Reporter now, last night, ten vehicles and 60,000 pounds of gear left menlo park with task force three search and rescue. About 80 members are deploying. Most are flying but some are driving 2 1 2 days to provide Hurricane Irma relief. Just a few Miles Per Hour shy of being a category 5. Moving to the westnorthwest at 16, which means flooding from the rain not as big a deal as the storm surge and winds. All right, here we go. A category 4 at 2 00 sunday morning, as it hits the keys and it rolls up into miami. Hits orlando, melbourne, that area about 2 00 a. M. Monday morning. Category 2 of 105mileperhour winds. Two men arrested in the bay area accused of a brutal stabbing in chicago are due back in court. Wyndham lathem and Andrew Warren were returned to illinois last month. Theyre charged with stabbing to death lathems boyfriend. They fled chicago before they turned themselves in to authorities here in the bay area. Prosecutors say they had talked in an internet chat room about their fantasy said of killing oerbts and then themselves. The stop urban shield coalition plans to rally against the Police Training exercise. Its under way at the Alameda County fairgrounds in pleasanton. Its a Training Exercise for first responders. Coalition members say they believe urban shield is a fascist movement designed to militarize police and to wage war against communities of color. The rally begins at 4 00 at the Alameda CountyAdministration Building in oakland. Oakland is celebrating the opening of its first Lgbtq Community center. It will provide resources and support for the community. Cornell bernard was at the grand opening. The east bay gay mens chorus kicked off the festivities at the new oakland Lgbtq Community center on lakeshore avenue. This woman lives in oakland and says its the only big city in california without a Resource Center until now. Lgbtq has been here, were loud and proud, and now we have people backing us. Had the cofounders knew there were plenty of resources in San Francisco, but not many in the east bay. I lived here 17 years and they never had a center thats all inclusive. Joe says the opening of the center comes at a time when bigotry is on the rise. According to new statistics from the department of justice. Hate crimes went up 11 , and the top two categories were africanamericans and lgbtq people. Mayor libby schaaf cut the ribbon for the center which will provide a wide range of services, mental health, substance abouse counseling and gender advocacy. This gives real assistance and hope, support, comfort, safety to this incredible community. What the center doesnt have is funding. Right now, we dont have any money. We have been funding this thing out of our own pockets. But there were surprise gifts. A check from the aids Health Care Foundation for 10,000. And another for 1,000 from oakland pride. Documents obtained by the Associated Press reveal the dam and spillways did not have cameras, sensors, lights, or monitors to help spot structural problems.
