School officials in San Francisco decided to ignore the state and let those kids move on with their lives. We have the story. Eric morales is from guatemala. He didnt speak any english when he enrolled at San FranciscoInternational High school. Its tough learning english. Ite kind of hard. But he did it. He met all the requirements needed to graduate, except he didnt pass the california exit exam by five points. He should have had a chance to retake it, but the state cancelled the july offering because lawmakers are considering no longer requiring the test at all. For students to be told that you jumped through all the hoops, have done everything to graduate except for not taking a test that the state is no longer offering is mystifying. 107 students in San Francisco were left with no diploma. Many, like eric, were accepted to college but were seeing the offers rescinded. Thats why the school board voted unanimously to defy state laws and give them their diploma s. We wish we could change it, but we are looking at our families and students and saying here is what for you. It shows they can do whatever they want to do. Eric starts at San Francisco state in the fall. The bill that would eliminate the exit exam requirement is still moving through the legislature. In San Francisco, katie marzullo, abc7 news. A stunning scandal. This morning nine people, including three chp officers, are in jail with a murder plot. Korey kauffmans body was found two years ago. Frank carson is a prominent attorney in modesto, accused of orchestrating his murder because he believes he stole antics from his property. Stole antiques. A former chp officer and woody are expected of the murder itself. The chp fired wells. And the other two named chp officers are accused of obstructing the investigation and they are on temporary leave. Its not what we stand for. Its so far beyond what any organization stands for. Carsons wife and step daughters are also facing charges. All of the accused are expected in court on tuesday. Investigators at Yosemite National park are trying to find out what caused a tree limb to break off, killing two children. It happened around 5 00 yesterday morning at the popular upper pines campground. It came off a black oak tree and fell on two children, crushing them. It sound like a gunshot when it came down. I heard a woman screaming at the top of her lungs and i knew something was wrong. These people, for all intents and purposes, did nothing wrong. They were in an established campsite. It made me feel sad for the family and sad for the situation because it was out of their control. There was nothing they could do about it. The authorities are calling it an unfortunate accident. The campsite remains open this weekend. Another popular campsite at yosemite will be closed next with being to get rid of fleas carrying the playing. Two squirrels found dead at the campground had the disease. Its carried by rodents and spread by fleas. Last month a child got sick from yosemite and had to be hospitalized. We have breaking news. Two people are dead after a headon collision and others were injured. The chp said a black ford pickup truck going southbound on 101 served across the road, flipped, and hit a jeep head on. Man and woman inside of the truck died at the scene. The man and woman in the jeep were airlifted to the hospital. This happened around 5 45 near the geyserville exit. Tried to change lanes when a motorcyclist slammed into it and careened into the median. The 59yearold most cyclist wasnt seriously hurt. Chp closed down four lanes of traffic as we cleared the scene and minor injuries were reported. After. A man police shot in oakland this week has been identified. His name is nathaniel wilks. He was armed and trying to crash drivers during a choice. Two people said they want more information. Sergio quintana has the story. At the corner of 27th street and Martin Luther king way it was a subdued gathering. Among the group, the girlfriend and the girlfriend and daughter of 27yearold nate wilks. They were here where he was shot saturday night. We are coming together to speak for him. Hes his girlfriends sister and has known him for years. She acknowledges hes not a saint but she said he did not deserve to be shot. You cannot tell me this man would do anything to jeopardize his life. Maybe his freedom, you know. I dont know what the circumstances were, but he didnt deserve to die period. But according to police, they were to forced to open fire. The Armed Robbery suspect led them on a chase, crashed, tried to carjack someone else and then pointed a gun at them. About 150 people are here. Organizers say they are holding this space. They dont believe wilks aimed the gun at officers and are hoping to raise money to pay for an independent autopsy. They say black people are treated differently. White people are talked down and brothers and sisters, its shoot and investigate later and its not acceptable. Abc7 news. San rafael Police Believe arson is the blame for a vegetation fire near a Shopping Mall off north gate drive of highway 101. The marin county sheriffs deputy said witnesses saw a small group of juveniles running from the fire. Firefighters are worried about hot and dry conditions this weekend as they work to contain the jerusalem fire. It has burned 27,000 acres. It destroyed four homes and forced dozens of evacuations since it started a week ago many it is now 74 contained. Firefighters will keep a watchout for popup fires. A bigger fire is now 100 contained. It was just north of the jerusalem fire. The rocky fire destroyed hundreds of structures. About half of them homes. Evacuations were lifted but they want people to be vigilant because of the soaring heat. Right now the wind has backed off to 6 miles an hour by the delta. It is going to be very warm there. Perhaps one hundred degrees. 53 in napa. Livermore in the 60s. It feels pretty good out there. You see the clear sky on the peninsula. But we are looking still at sea surface temperatures anywhere from 6 to 8 degrees above average so this keeps us warm overnight. It allows for the onshore flow to not be as cool as what it should be. But today all bets are off with the offshore flow. And the temperatures climbing quickly. In fact, the heat will be with us right on through the weekend into monday in the inland east bay. And the fire concern, of course, is elevated with relative humidity dropping to the Single Digits. The good news is the offshore flow shouldnt be with gusty winds, but still it is going to be hot out there. The huge dome of High Pressure continues to build into california and that allows for temperatures to soar. In fact, its getting close to the coast. It wont be until sunday when the sea breeze returns but its only going to be for folks within five miles of the coast or so that will feel it. In the 70sed to monterey. 11 sacramento. The heat is with us right on through tomorrow and even monday inland. But by monday we should drop into the 80s around the bay. It still will be mild at the coast. And look at temperatures getting back to normal by tuesday. A little bit below average by the end of next week.
