ROCKFORD — Age is nothing but a number to Kawaia Jackson, and for the 16-year-old, now is the time to speak up about social injustices in her community.
Rather than wait for it, Jackson has taken the initiative and seeks to be a force for change.
Whether it's in the form of spoken word, like when she was a seventh-grader reciting a poem about the effects of racism, or working within Guilford High School to create social media challenges to raise awareness about Black History Month, Jackson has always kept her mind focused on creating equity.
The Guilford High School sophomore is using the resources she has at her disposal to encourage peers and adults to join her in her fight.
