Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. Glyndebourne’s back. What a joy, even on a stormy evening. And what a valiant attempt they made to give us a good time, despite the enforced empty seats, and the increasingly irksome social-distancing arrangements.
Katya Kabanova, arguably Leos Janacek’s most intense drama, celebrated its centenary in style.
The men were excellent, particularly David Butt Philip’s Boris, Katya’s lover, and even more so Nicky Spence’s drunken Tichon, Katya’s hopeless husband.
