“It is not apt for the council chairman to continue in power after a no-confidence motion is moved. After a no-confidence motion is moved, he has only two options – either he should resign or face the motion. However, he has avoided both options. He should uphold the values of the constitutional position by resigning from the post,” Nayak said in Mangaluru on Friday.
The council chairman should not misuse power for personal reasons, he said.
“It is his moral responsibility to resign when he knows very well that he has no majority to face the no confidence motion. Continuing in power as the chairman of the council in this situation is against the Constitution,” he said and apologized for the fracas witnessed in the council recently in connection with the issue.
