She is currently assistant superintendent.
She will be replacing Superintendent Carla Birney, who announced her retirement earlier this year.
"I am both excited for the opportunity to lead this district and humbled by the trust put in me," McCrate said Tuesday. "I know the expectations are high and I appreciate that. I’m ready to keep working hard to meet the expectations of Dover Schools and this community.
"I have so much respect for the tradition of leadership within this district. We are in a good position as we wrap up a major project with the new high school and begin the transition out of the pandemic and into the next phase for Dover Schools.
