Kacey Lynn Filkins Howg of Culver City, California, was swept into the arms of Jesus on the evening of Friday, May 13. She was a bright soul whose smile lit up any space she entered. Kacey had the heart of an artist and poet, which she loved to share with those around her, especially the little ones. She connected with children spiritually and helped them realize that their lives could be extraordinary. Kacey received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. Her unmet desires were to be an art therapist or own a coffee shop, depending on the day. Kacey was a free spirit who loved road trips and adventures of all kinds. Kacey had a long history of mental illness, which unfortunately took her from us. If love could have saved her, she would be with us today. She was preceded in death by her grandfather David Elmon Filkins and aunt Lynn Suzanne Filkins. She is survived by her grandfather Lyle (Donna) Howg, grandmother Vyonne Block Howg, grandmother Jernette Schwichtenberg Filkins, father Karl David (Lynne) Howg, mother Jeanne Dee Filkins, brother Kal Filkins Howg, sister Karly Jeanne (Jeff) Torgerson, brother Gunnar David Filkins (Hannah) Howg, as well as much beloved nephew and nieces Asa, Eden, Analeigh, and Talitha, and myriad aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Community of Grace Lutheran Church, 4000 Linden Street, White Bear Lake, MN. Celebrants are encouraged to wear yellow, flowers, or something bright and artistic to honor Kacey. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to thetreesremember.com (to plant trees in Kacey’s memory in the Sierra National Forest) or to the American Foundation for suicide prevention at afsp.org.
