K&L Gates grows IP practice

Global law firm K&L Gates has recruited a new partner to add to its growing Melbourne-based intellectual property practice.
Patrick Sands joins the firm from Herbert Smith Freehills, bringing with him a reputation as having provided commercially focused advice and guidance on major strategic intellectual property disputes.

“Working at the intersection of science, technology and law, Patrick offers clients a unique combination of skills and experience that, together with a science degree, allows Patrick to communicate effectively with scientists, management boards and legal counsel on highly technical transactions,” a statement from K&L Gates explained, noting that Mr Sands’ diverse experience includes acting for clients in various sectors, including pharmaceutical, medical devices, digital mobile radio, consumer, optical communications, mining and automotive.
