Manitoba First Nations Police Service is pleased to announce the newest Member to the Police Service, K-9 ZION.
Zion is a Belgian Malinois and is currently in training with his Handler Cst. T.A. (Travis) Assiniboine. On April 19, 2021, a competition was held for Opaskwayak Detachment and a new dog Handler. Cst. Assiniboine was the successful candidate, and along with Zion is currently in training at the Office of the Fire Commissions training facility in Brandon.

K-9 Zion joins MFNPS Back to video
Zion is being trained in Search and rescue, drug and firearms detection and further suspect apprehension. The course is an intense 16 weeks of training and upon graduation, both Zion and Cst. Assiniboine will be deployed to the community of Opaskwayak Cree Nation. Cst. Assiniboine is the 1st First Nations K-9 Handler in the Province of Manitoba. Zion is a needed and valuable addition to our Police Service as we all look forward their graduation and active duty, as fully trained K-9 Handler and K-9 graduate.
