It was a horrific car crash on the I-67 in Morgan County that took seven lives â six of whom were children â and haunted emergency workers responding to the scene.
The two cars involved in the crash on the divided highway were reduced to clumps of mangled metal. Their deadly collision shook the small town of Martinsville just southwest of Indianapolis.
And following a two-week trial in April and May 2000, prosecutors successfully convinced a jury that one woman, Judy Kirby, caused the destruction on purpose.
Three of the kids killed in the crash were Kirbyâs own: Jacob, 5, Joney, 9, and Jordan, 12. Kirbyâs nephew, Jeremy Young, 10, also lost his life. The driver of the van that Kirby hit, Thomas Reel, 40, died along with his son Bradley, 13, and daughter, Jesica, 14.
