An Iowa administrative law judge said Thursday that Des Moines superintendent Tom Ahart violated his ethical duty by keeping kids out of school last fall when Iowa was struggling with keeping the coronavirus contained.
"I concluded the record supported a finding that Dr. Ahart had violated an ethical duty to comply with all laws applicable to the fulfillment of this professional obligations as alleged" Administrative Law Judge David Lindgren said during an Iowa's Board of Educational Examiners hearing.
But he did not rule on what, if any, punishment Ahart should receive.
Jesse Ramirez, an assistant attorney general, told Lindgren that he does not believe Ahart's license should be revoked as a result, the harshest punitive measure, but he should be sanctioned.
