Prince Khalid bin Abdullah Al Saud, a member of the Saudi royal family and master of Juddmonte Farms, died Tuesday, per a Juddmonte release.
Though his father, a half-brother to King Abdulaziz, was a horse owner, he did not keep a racing stable. Instead, Prince Khalid's interest in horse racing came during a trip with friends to France in 1956, that included a visit to Longchamp Racecourse. He didn't own racehorses himself until 1977, but over the course of five decades, the prince built Juddmonte Farms into one of the world's most elite Thoroughbred racing and breeding operations.
