Jonathan Morgenstein’s work in the Project Development and Finance Group of the Integrated Applications Center focuses on developing microgrids for the Department of the Army, advising federal agencies on energy efficiency financing, and international renewable energy market development. Previously Jonathan worked on Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs) and founded Empowerment Solar, a company dedicated to designing and installing distributed solar electric systems in the Middle East.
Before entering the energy field, Morgenstein worked in national security policy, human rights, and conflict mitigation in the U.S. Senate, at the Pentagon and with the U.S. Institute of Peace. Jonathan is currently a Major in the Marine Corps Reserves, where he has served since 1991 (including one tour in Bosnia and two in Iraq). He also is a fellow with the Truman National Security Project since 2006 and has been published in Foreign Affairs Magazine, the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Politico, The Hill and other publications.
