TERRY GROSS, HOST:
This is FRESH AIR. I'm Terry Gross. Great news about today's show. My guest is composer, pianist, bandleader and singer Jon Batiste, and he's at his home piano ready to play some music for us. It's been quite a year for him. He's the music director and bandleader of "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," which had been produced at the Ed Sullivan Theater with an audience. But since the pandemic, Batiste and the members of his band, Stay Human, have been performing from their homes.
