Hi Johnnie: There have been a few recent news stories about bears getting into people’s trash cans, trying to calorie-load before their big winter hibernation. From children’s books, I have always had an image in my mind of bears hibernating in cozy caves. However, now that I think about it, it doesn’t seem like there are that many caves in our nearby mountains. So where do the bears hibernate? Are they just out in the open or under a tree? Do they ever choose to hibernate at a lower elevation? — Goldilocks
