John To Go pays $15K fine to Ramapo for illegal operation in Hillcrest

After the company moved into the former Hillcrest firehouse, complaints followed from Hillcrest residents and nearby strip mall business owners about foul odors and storage of dozens of portable toilets behind the building.
Ramapo inspectors cited the company for never receiving town approvals to operate. The company's violations included lacking a certificate of occupancy and an approved site plan to operate on commercial property.
After months of court appearances and reneged-upon promises to leave, John To Go was fined $15,000 on April 5 by Ramapo Justice David Fried for operating without a certificate of occupancy, site development plan, and site maintenance violations.
