He added: "I guess that muddle-headed lefties really don’t like the idea that for nearly a hundred years, and at vast expense, the country that they hate waged easily the most morally just war of all time."
The outspoken TV star's comments come as a summit to “defend our history” begins this week, attended by 25 of the country’s leading heritage bodies.
The National Trust, Historic England and the British Museum are among the institutions who will be sitting down with Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden, where they will be warned against attempts to rewrite Britain’s history over concerns that a “noisy minority of activists” are trying to “do Britain down”.
