Madeline Ungurain with the 1958 Cessna 172 that she flew out of Airdrie airport in January. Ungurain went up to Jasper but couldn’t land due to the high wind shear near Jasper-Hinton Airport that day, so she turned around and flew back. It was a three-hour round trip. | Supplied photo

A single mother of 10-year-old twin boys is slowly but surely gaining altitude as she works towards her commercial pilot with the eventual hope of flying for a living.
Born in 1991, Madeline Ungurain grew up the second oldest of four in Cambridge, Ont.
