Jail inmate dies in apparent medical emergency, sheriffs officials say

A 40-year-old Oxnard man died early Saturday morning while in custody at the Ventura County jail, officials said.
David Baca Hernandez suffered a medical emergency and became unresponsive at 1:07 a.m., the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said Monday in a news release.
Deputies and jail medical staff gave Hernandez aid until Ventura City Fire and paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, the man died in the jail.
Sheriff's Sgt. Tim Lohman said Monday that Hernandez's cellmate alerted jail staff of the medical problem, pressing an emergency button inside the cell.
