KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Joel Holbrook was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served in Desert Storm. He continued to serve in the National Guard even after moving to the Kansas City area to work as a corrections officer at the Jackson County Detention Center.
Holbrook's older sister, Connie Sheely, describes him as quiet but funny, someone who loved animals, working with kids, and music. He even played in the U.S. Army band.
