(Bloomberg) -- Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine distribution was paused in much of the U.S. and Europe pending a review of the development of rare blood clots in several women, marking another setback for the global inoculation campaign.
Germany’s rate of infections climbed further beyond a key threshold, a day after the government approved legislation that mandates tougher restrictions in virus hotspots. Chancellor Angela Merkel urged lawmakers in parliament to support the legislation, which triggers stricter curbs when the incidence rate climbs above 100.
President Emmanuel Macron will meet on Thursday with ministers to prepare the rules for reopening businesses next month, Elysee Palace announced. Macron said in March that bars and restaurants would be back in business in mid-May with outdoor seating, and that cultural establishments also would reopen.
