London was gripped by bitterly cold conditions on New Year’s Eve as temperatures in the north sank to a low of minus 7.5C on the final day of the year.
The mercury in the capital was set to stay at or below 3C on Thursday afternoon - with a bitingly cold wind ensuring the ‘feel like temperature’ stays at or below zero, according to the Met Office.
But hopes of some snow in London at the dawn of the New Year seemed slim, with dry conditions forecast over the next couple of days. Temperatures in London are expected to reach a ‘high’ of 3C on Friday, January 1, and four or five degrees over the weekend.
