Facebook has launched public COVID-19 education campaigns in Fiji and Papua New Guinea following calls for the social media giant to do more to tackle misinformation shared on its platform.
The campaigns include graphics and videos in English and local languages, encouraging people to be aware of misinformation, fact-check claims and visit reputable Government websites for advice.
A similar campaign will soon begin in Samoa.
It comes as COVID-19 vaccination programs begin to roll out in all three countries.
Bernadette Yakopa, a social worker with Save The Children PNG, said she was worried that misinformation on social media was fuelling vaccine hesitancy.
