Ireland’s Tánaiste, Leo Varadkar, touched base with EPP members of the European Parliament on Wednesday, as part of a video call on the ongoing trade negotiations between the UK and the EU.
The call came hours ahead of a crunch meeting between European Commission President Von der Leyen and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who met in Brussels amid the current standoff in the negotiations.
In the call, EPP members renewed their commitment to defending Irish interests in the ongoing trade talks, which have been beset by disputes over governance, the level-playing field and fishing rights.
“We have supported Irish concerns in Brexit from the start and will continue to do so,” EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber said following the call with Varadkar.
