AMES, Iowa - You'll be able to have a your driver's license on your smart phone in Iowa at some point in the future.
The state hopes to have a pilot program for what will be called "mobile ID" up and running by the end of the year.
Mobile IDs will become more widespread once the International Standards Organization finalizes rules to govern their use.
Once that hurdle is passed, people will then be able to board an airline flight using their phone.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the process of obtaining a Mobile ID will involve downloading the app, scanning a physical ID and taking a selfie.
