Producers had planned to have the film in theaters already, but COVID-19 put a pause in production.
“116 MacDougal” will be filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Tjelmeland lives and owns a photography studio.
“This is not just an independent film — this is an epic independent film,” said Lynda Schneider, publicist and one of the executive producers for the movie. “The breadth of it is so different from most independent projects.”
The movie has more than 60 speaking roles, 10,000-square feet of space for sets, and musicians from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performing the score.
The plot follows the real-life story of Pittsburgh native John Mitchell, who opened the Gaslight Cafe, a music house that launched the careers of icons such as Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul & Mary.
