Iowa lawmakers introduced a bill earlier this month meant to tighten rules and requirements for people in the state who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The bill would require SNAP recipients to use a list of products under another food-aid program, WIC. That would essentially ban SNAP recipients in the state from buying meat products in the country's top red-meat producing state.
