IONIA — After more than four decades in public safety, Jim Valentine has decided to call it a career.
Valentine is retiring as Ionia County Central Dispatch director on May 14. Valentine has served in the position since January 2009.
“It was time,” Valentine told The Sentinel-Standard. “I’ve been in public safety for 46 years. It’s time to retire and move on.”
Valentine started his career with the Lake Odessa Police Department for more than eight years as a patrol officer and sergeant.
He then worked for the Lowell Police Department for 26 years. He worked as a patrol officer and detective before spending the last 14 years as police chief.
