IONIA — The city of Ionia's proposed fiscal year 2022 budget is a nearly 6 percent decrease from the previous year.
The Ionia City Council participated in a special session before its regular meeting Tuesday, May 4, to review the proposed FY22 budget.
Council members voted unanimously to set a public hearing on the budget and utility rate ordinance at its June 1 regular meeting, followed by adoption.
Ionia City Manager Precia Garland said department heads submitted their budget requests in March. Garland and Finance Director Chris Hyzer prepared the recommended budget in April. Following the budget adoption in June, the new fiscal year begins July 1.
