Inventor of Air Conditioning Helped Chill NASA Wind Tunnels

Chilling a huge wind tunnel to -47 degrees isn’t an easy task. The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, NASA’s predecessor, asked Willis Carrier, the inventor of air conditioning, to help design the refrigeration system for a facility that could test World War II plane engines.
