OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington Gov. Jay Inslee held a press conference Thursday afternoon to provide an update on the state’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During Thursday's press conference, Inslee talked about the increase of homeless during the COVID-19 pandemic. The governor said while the state's eviction moratorium has saved 75,000 people from become homeless, the amount of homeless people in the state has increased during the pandemic.
Inslee called on state legislatures to direct funding from the Federal American Rescue Plan towards acquiring low income housing, providing case management for housing and homeless individuals, and providing cleanup and rehabilitation to public spaces that have been used for encampments during the COVID-19 pandemic.
