Growing up, my dad used to collect coins. He still does to this day. But you can't just walk into your nearest store and buy those. That's why collecting Hot Wheels is much easier. Of course, the level of difficulty will vary depending on the goals you've set for your collection. Newer diecasts are easily available, older ones not so much.
