Highly infectious variants of coronavirus could be fuelling more frequent leaks from hotel quarantine across Australia, scientists warn, after three new cases in a week connected with Victoria’s isolation program.
The latest person to test positive for the virus – a woman in her early 50s – had been working as an authorised officer at the Holiday Inn near Melbourne Airport, a “cold” quarantine hotel which is not dedicated to confirmed cases of COVID-19.
