Three IndyStar projects have been recognized as some of the best work within parent company Gannett’s 260 newsrooms.
IndyStar saw winning entries in public service journalism for “Careless,” investigations with “Mauled: When Police Dogs are Weapons” and individual contributions for La Estrella, IndyStar’s first Spanish-language newsletter.
The companywide contest saw more than 400 entries, all reviewed by 10 outside judges that considered diversity, ethics, teamwork, transformation, creative storytelling and results that empowered communities to thrive.
La Estrella launched in April 2020 after IndyStar’s Natalia Contreras and Daniela Franco Brown saw a need for a Spanish translation of information about the pandemic. Since its launch, La Estrella has raked in more than 1,300 subscribers.
