An Indigenous-Filipino woman from Fisher River Cree Nation has been trying to address food security among Indigenous peoples through academia for two years now.
“Going through university and academia, I came to this realization of how torn I felt being an Indigenous and Filipino person going through Western academia,” said Taylor Wilson, a project coordinator at the Winnipeg Boldness Project.

“I found myself struggling with my identity. At that time, I was trying to think about my health and taking care of myself when I began to see the big gaps in food security and food sovereignty from an Indigenous point of view.”
